Tembi House of Culture

Tembi House of Culture

Tembi House of Culture is an environmental based cultural village situated around 8,4 km from downtown Yogyakarta, at the village of Tembi – Timbulhardjo, Bantul. The site was established in 2007 as an effort to preserve Javanese traditional house of Limasan. Limasan is a building architecture which was commonly found in Javanese traditional houses made in the 1940s. It is shaped almost like a joglo, a one room building, but with a slightly different architectural design.

The main facility of the complex is the Yudonegaran Pavilion (Pendopo), the first building seen as you enter the complex. The Pendopo is an open building which is usually used for social events and art performance. It has host events such as wayang kulit (shadow puppets) performance, art galleries, traditional dance performance, music performance, and other social activities. The building displays Javanese weapons and traditional music instruments when not in use.

Besides the Pendopo, the complex also provides several guest rooms to rent. The typical characteristic of Limasan architecture is an appeal emitted from the guest rooms. The guest rooms and facilites provided are nothing close to a five star resort. The founders purposely built the complex to give an exclusive and convenient rural feeling that you won’t find easily in a city nuance. Despite that fact, Tembi House of Culture also provides modern facilities such as internet access, air conditioning and private bathroom in each rooms. The complex also includes a pond-like swimming pool known as Belik (a Javanese traditional spring pond). Tembi House of Culture offers optional activities associated with art or tradition that can be perceived by guests.

To sum it up, Tembi House of Culture is a combination of natural nuance and cultural insights of Indonesia that can bring a completely different affection from modern attraction sites.
