The word sekaten comes from an Islamic term, Syahadatain, or the two sentences of Syahadat (or commonly known as the two sentences of faith to Allah and Prophet Muhammad as His messenger) . The ceremony that aims to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad SAW is enlivened by many performances and traditional fair that sells souvenirs and craft. There is also an heirloom exhibition in Pagelaran of Keraton Surakarta. Sekaten is Closed by the procession of Gunungan that starts from Keraton Surakarta to Masjid Agung.
