Sangkring Art Space

Sangkring Art Space

Sangkring Art Space is an art gallery that was established by the initiative of Putu Sutawijaya, an Indonesia artist specializing in contemporary works. Most of the paintings in the gallery is a masterpiece of Sutawijaya, although some are created by other artists as well. Putu Sutawijaya was born in Bali, but he studied and pursued knowledge in Yogyakarta, to be exact on the Art Faculty of Indonesian Art Insitute (ISI) Yogyakarta. Throughout his art career, Sutawijaya has received several awards, such as the Philip Morris Top 10 Asean Artists Award (1999) and the Best Fine Art Award from the Indonesian Art Institute, Yogyakarta at the 11th Dies Nathalis of ISI.

Sangkring Art Space is situated on Nitiprayan, Rt.1 Rw.2 No. 88, Ngestiharjo, Kasihan, Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta and was established on May 31 2007. The name Sangkring, is derived from Sutawijaya’s ancestor. He believed that by choosing a name from the past, it will serve as a spirit that can link the past and motivate the development of the art world in the present. With that belief in mind, Sangkring Art Space exists to facilitate the young, old, new or experienced artist for any type of creative art works that can be displayed at the gallery. Sangkring Art Space can accommodate the difference in art without considering the background, culture or ideology of an individual. It is a space given to any artists to distribute their talent.
