Pantai Siung (Siung Beach)

Pantai Siung (Siung Beach)

Siung Beach is another beautiful beach in the Southern Area of Yogyakarta, Gunung Kidul to be exact,  where there exists a chain of beaches like Baron and Sundak. It is situated about 70 km from downtown Yogyakarta.

What makes this beach so different from others in the Southern area is the possession of hundreds of climbing sites around the cliffs that surround the beach. The state of the beach that lies between 2 mountains, comfortably results in the presence of cliffs. There are approximately 250 climbing routes available throughout the cliffs surrounding Siung. For people that enjoys adventurous  rock climbing activities, this site is just perfect for your skill development. For shelter, there are many camping grounds near the cliff for tent usage. If you feel reluctant to set up camp, there is a wooden stage house nearby that enables a better view of the beach and its surroundings. Of course you have to pay a rate to use the stage house, but the price is considerably cheap compared to the lifetime experience and astonishing view.

Besides the hundreds of climbing routes it offers, Siung Beach also possesses beautiful coral reefs both in the eastern and western part of the beach. The reefs is essential in making a more beautiful scenary of nature , and is also used as a border mark between beaches in the area.

An interesting occasion that happens often in Siung is the appearance of long-tailed monkeys coming down from the cliffs to shore. This in fact has to do with the naming of the coral reefs as “fang of the monkeys”.
