Malem Selikuran is a traditional ceremony held by Keraton Surakarta Hadiningrat and Solo citizens to commemorate the Nuzulul Quran, which is always celebrated at the 21st of Ramadhan (a holy month in the Islamic Calender). The ceremony starts with the procession of 1.000 tumpeng ( rice arranged in a huge pile forming a cone shape) from Pagelaran to Sriwedari. Following behind the procession are the soldiers of Keraton Surakarta and the march of 21 lamp posts symbolizing “Malam Selikuran”.
