Kukup Beach

Kukup Beach

Kukup Beach is a white sand beach located on the southern area of Yogyakarta, to be exact Kemadang village, Tanjungsari. The beach is located around 40 km away from Yogyakarta city. It is considered one of the series of beaches in the southern area other than Baron Beach, Krakal Beach, Sundak Beach, Wedi Ombo Beach and others. They each have the same characteristics other than their location, which is the possession of white sand. It is believed that the white sand of the southern beaches are remnants of rock fragments and pieces of animal skins and shellfishes.

Kukup Beach is known for its varieties of fishes and sea animals, including rare sea biotas such as the green turtle. On the east side of the beach, exists a coral stone that’s connected with a bridge. From here you can enjoy beautiful panoramic scene of the sea and mountains that surround the beach. The coral stones and cave-like stones, which shelters ornamental fishes and plants, around the beach is also a feature you can use to accompany your photos or activities at the beach.

Another interesting facility here is the fish market that sells fishes cought by locals from the area. To complete the facility, there are also seafood restaurants where you can have your purchased fishes from the market cooked with your desired seasoning. Kukup Beach is also host for traditional ceremony that is conducted every month of Suro.
