Krakal Beach

Krakal Beach is a long white sand beach located 65 km away from Yogyakarta city, in Ngestirejo village, Tanjungsari sub-region, Gunung Kidul Regency. Krakal Beach is considered one of the longest and most beautiful beaches out of the series of beaches that stretches along the southern part of Yogyakarta. Other southern beaches distancing not too far away from Krakal is Kukup Beach, Baron Beach and Sundak Beach. The spacious white sand and textures of coral reefs is the most interesting attraction that the beach can give to its visitors. In fact, Krakal is scheduled to be the biggest tourism beach in Yogyakarta, similar to that of Nusa Dua in Bali.

If you take a drive to Krakal Beach, you will find yourself surrounded by beautiful natural limestone hills alternated with terraced rocks along your journey, which gives an enchanting scenary along the road. These enchanting feature is what local people call karst area. Krakal Beach is known as a lowland beach which can create a beach horizon from the sunshine. According to geologists, Krakal Beach was once situated on the base of the sea. But due to elevation process, the beach is slowly lifted, until its current position. The coral reefs that is seen on the beach, was used as home to sea animals during that period. The everlasting waves that occurs at the beach is also an image that one can find amusing. All the features and also location of the beach makes it an ideal place for sun bathing, a favorite activity done by foreign tourist at the beach. Be careful when you take a swim at the beach since there are many small reefs and rocks that is unseen from out of the water.

There are also supporting facilities near Krakal for its visitors. Several cheap resorts and also restaurants are available in just walking distance from the beach. Besides that, there are numerous spots where you can view both the stunning scene of the sunrise and sunset.
