Jenderal Sudirman Museum (Sasmitaloka Museum)

Sudirman is the first General of the Indonesian Army. He was known as the brave General from Java because of his longlasting spirit and passion to battle the Dutch colony. Because of his great service for Indonesia as a Grand Marshal, his home was made into a Private Museum to commemorate his merit. The museum is located at Jalan Bintaran, Yogyakarta.
The features and items inside the museum is arranged and kept the same as when it was left by the General before his death. The main building contains 6 rooms that are connected with each other. The front part of the building is the Guest Room, where the General used to host formal guests. The guest room is divided into two parts, the North and the South. In between the rooms there is a medal of honor that is given to the General. Behind the Guest Room is the Family Room where the General used to spend time with his family.
In the North Wing of the main house, stands a 3-room building used as the General’s work building. The building was used as a secretariat and display room for weapons taken from the Japanese and English army during the revolution. Sudirman’s private goods displayed in the building includes kitchenary items such as spoons, plates and glasses and his famous typical palanquin that was used to carry the General from one place to another.
There is no admission fee to enter the museum, however visitors are requested to fill in the Guestbook in the entrance door. The museum can be visited everyday except on Friday and on national holidays, from 8:00 AM – 14:00 PM.
